Reflections on leadership, legacy, and the future of ISG
Throughout the feature, Gary expressed his deep connection to ISG’s values, his pride in its accomplishments, and his optimism for the future. His parting words were filled with gratitude for his time at ISG and hope for its continued success, making the interview a heartfelt tribute to a career that spanned over two decades. Azryl worked closely with ISG’s marketing communications team to ensure the feature was visually engaging, incorporating vibrant design elements and photography that captured the essence of Gary’s leadership. The piece not only celebrated Gary’s contributions but also served as a meaningful reflection on ISG’s journey in Asia.
A fitting tribute to two decades of leadership
The feature in The Vine was well-received across ISG’s internal community, providing employees with an inspiring story of leadership and dedication. Gary’s journey became a symbol of ISG’s growth and adaptability in the built environment sector, and the interview helped humanize the company’s leadership for employees at all levels. By focusing on Gary’s personal experiences and professional impact, the feature underscored the importance of documenting leadership journeys to inspire others within the organization. This tribute to Gary’s legacy ultimately became a touchpoint for reflecting on ISG’s own evolution and the key figures who helped shape its success.
Capturing two decades of leadership and evolution
In June 2018, ISG’s internal magazine, The Vine, featured a special interview with Gary Allin, Managing Director of ISG Singapore, to mark his farewell after 21 years of dedicated service. The interview, conducted by Azryl (now the founder of Alcove Communications), explored Gary’s remarkable journey from his early days in construction in the UK to his pivotal role in ISG’s expansion across Asia. This interview was more than a look back at Gary’s career; it was a reflection on ISG’s evolution in the Asia Pacific and the values that have driven its success over two decades.
A journey from apprentice to leader in Asia's built environment
As part of ISG’s marketing communications team, Azryl conducted this in-depth interview, tracing Gary’s career from his humble beginnings as an apprentice in Surrey, UK, to his leadership role in Asia. With guidance from his father and education from the City & Guilds Institute of London, Gary rapidly rose through the ranks, eventually joining ISG in 1997 when he moved to Malaysia. The interview highlighted Gary’s role in ISG’s transformation in Asia, evolving from a joinery business into a major construction player with a workforce of 450 and a turnover of SGD 250 million by 2011. Through personal stories and reflections, the interview painted a vivid picture of both Gary’s professional growth and ISG’s milestones in the region.
